HOME-OPERATED BUSINESS. ARE YOU PROTECTED?
By: Vic Lefeve
Are you running a business from your home?
Most people who use their home to operate a business do not
consider their business significant enough to warrant an inquiry
about additional insurance protection for this venture. In
fact, most people assume that any incident which may occur
at their home would be covered under their homeowner’s
insurance policy.
Unfortunately, it is not common knowledge that all homeowners’
insurance policies have some type of exclusion for bodily
injury or property damage arising out of or in connection
with any business conducted from your home or an insured location.
The bad news is, if you, your products or services, whether
at home or away from home causes bodily injury or property
damage to someone, you cannot rely on your homeowner’s
insurance policy for protection. However, the good news is
that insurance protection for your home business can be purchased
at a reasonable cost, and your professional insurance agent
can help.
